a recap of Sour and Chariot Bike at the MADE Show 2024.
The MADE Show is put on for Builders and Brands to show off their custom components and bikes. There are builders from around the world showing their custom-built bikes, bike racks, beautiful stem caps, bags, and more. This year was the second year we attended the show at the Zidell Yards venue in Portland, OR with Sour Bicycles.
Erich, Joergen (Sour Germany), Ron, and I hung out all three days at the Sour booth chatting about their CrMo German-built frames. We would take turns roaming the venue and chatting with other booths about their drool-worthy bikes and parts.
Why Was Chariot There?
A little background of why we’re there: Chariot and Sour have teamed up with Chariot as the US connection Dealer/Distributor. Erich, Ron, and I (Julia) visited Sour on Oct. 2023. We attended the Bespoked Show which is a really fun bike show if you ever get to go. Hanging out in Dresden, Germany we met Chris (the owner of Sour) and some of the team. This is where it was decided we would team up with Sour to bring more bikes over to the US market. More on this trip on another blog.
Back to the show…
It was an action packed three days in Portland, OR. The first day involves different media taking pictures of show bikes and interviewing the builders. Then the public arrives and the real fun begins. Floods of bike nerds come by each booth ready to chat. Our booth was filled with a Purple Haze (Erich’s personal bike monster gravel), Cowboy Cookie (full suspension mountain bike), Crumble (hardtail mountain bike), a Space Cake (prototype road bike), and a second Purple Haze (flat bar set up by Martin from Cyclepath). There were two more bikes on display in different booths, a Cowboy Cookie in the Chris King booth (decked out with Violet King parts) and a Double Choc in the Hunt Wheels booth (sporting their lovely wheels).

There were so many events happening around this event it was hard to keep track of them. The first night we were there there was the Chris King open house. All the vendors at the event hung out and get a tour of their facility while drinking beers from Block 15 and listening to a local band play rockin’ tunes. Every day there was some sort of group ride leaving from the venue, we didn’t do any because it was so busy this year. I attended the Women in the industry happy hour hosted by Swift Industries Martina. Met some rad people there and chatted about future backpacking trips everyone had planned.
Lots of bikes! We met some amazing connections there and had a blast talking about Sour Bicycles to everyone that came by the booth. Until next time :)
